2/17/04 From : Wang-Ping Chen Dear Classmates: Thanks to Ganlin Jin's efforts, we meet on-line... Still married to the same woman (since the late 1970's), have the same number of children (since the late 1980's), based in flatville (since the early 1980's), and doing/teaching seismology and geophysics (since the mid-1970's). Did gain some weight and grey hair, though. Fortunately, the drive and physical/mental faculty are still going (for now). Aside from recent messages from Ganlin Jin, I have hardly seen or heard from you. The exceptions are: Yui T-F and Teng S-Y whom I see occasionally in Taiwan; Huang Gong who called me once years ago; Huang K-C whom I used to see almost yearly in San Francisco before he moved to LA; a few of you, part of the Silicon Valley Mafia, many years ago at KC's. Work has taken me all over the world, some in person, mostly by remote sensing (via seismic waves). I'm delighted to learn that many of you are in Taiwan and the PRC, and will try to do a better job of keeping in touch the next time I visit -- Getting together will surely beat committee meetings and field deployments. Be sure to alert me if you come by the midwest. Best, Wang-Ping ________________________ Wang-Ping Chen (217) 355-3589 (H) (217) 333-2744 (O) e-mail: wpchen(дк)uiuc.edu http://www.uiuc.edu/~wpchen
